The Sound Goddess Redefined

MC Sharon, also known by her other monikers Decibelle, Alshaverb Mama Yao or Achieng Ajuoga is an interdisciplinary musical artist from Nairobi, Kenya. The rap crooner, producer, scholar and cultural curator is a genre bending hip hop connoisseur who originally hails from Muhoroni Town. She epitomises a gritty blend of unapologetic hip hop, melodic afro fusions ethmusicology, spirituality and so much more — a musical trend setter and a multifaceted adventurer in every sense of the word.

The Oracle of Muhoroni town wears many faces and dons many a hat; and each moniker is a reflection of her multidimensional, multidisciplinary brand.
1. Alshaverb, for instance, is coined from the first letters her names Alai Sharon. 'Verb' is the to do word and in this case it refers to lyrical slaying with her pen being her sword.
2. Decibelle represents her Sound engineering passions and sound production purs—uits and its coined from Decibel the SI unit of sound amplitude. Belle is the French equivalent of a pretty girl.
3. Achieng Ajuoga the Oracle of Muhoroni Town - This is the embodiment of her spiritual journey at the intersection of arts, music, culture and legacy.

Decibelle is a blend of both country and city living. It is during her times in the countryside that her melodic persuasions were encouraged during choir practice. Growing up as a staunch Adventist, this came naturally for most, if not all her family members on both sides. It is in the city however that her music transformation from Acapella praise and worship to Hip hop, reggae, afrosoul, afrobeat and other ethnic jazzy vibes came to be a reality.

As a music student with a piano background during her time in Alliance Girls High School and even thereafter, the music afficionada has continued to grow and experiment with different sounds; not only as a producer and a performer but also a mentor and a teacher.
Alshaverb burst into the scene with Word On The Street fresh out of high school. This was recorded at the late Bruce Odhiambo's Johari Cleff studios; paving the way for her youthful and illustrious rap career to take shape. Word on the Street was soon followed up by the sultry urban hit Everyday (featuring Pam of SEMA). It was recorded at Soundscribes by Edineree where she had found yet another musical home among the likes of Michelle Kwambo, Edu G, Wardhez, Nanoma, Kaz, Boboz MCs and Bafu Chafu.

From then she ventured away from her safe zone to carve out her own niche and she went on to work with many other units before setting up base at EWD Studios.
This is where Hustlers Ground, her first major studio album after the EPs African Warrior and The Underground Alliance (UA) Initiative was released.
At the time she was also a member of The Others Music Group alongside 4nzy, Kimathi Marshall, Samuel Malaki - The Difference, Big Boi Kuntry and The Other Others; and together they released The Others Vol 1 mix tape later that year.
Before EWD she was a founder member at The Warriors Band and together they did 'Live Up' the live music album in downtown Nairobi before embarking on a Ghetto to Ghetto tour.
The original Warriors included Mtapa, Temper, Mdogo, Lwanda Magere, Nandasaba, Sammy Boy among others; and even after they parted ways and splintered into two different factions, she continued to perform as a solo act in many a platform. Amongst her many notable creations thereafter was Seven Days (2015); a mixtape she produced in Maruna Records, Naivasha.
Ironically this happened during a sabbatical which had been imposed by circumstances; during a time when she was struggling to rediscover herself, eke a living afresh and raise her two sons away from the hustle and bustle of Nairobi. In that same year after a two year stint away from the scene, she came back to the city renewed and rejuvenated. This is when she self published her first book Bottle Battles, Binges and Brew Blues 1: THE CHRONICLES OF A CONVALESCENT ALCOHOLIC.

MC Sharon is the face, Decibelle the ears, Alshaverb the hands and Achieng Ajuoga is the soul in this order of artistic personification. Needless to say, the goddess of sound has been flourishing and will continue to flourish within and beyond the limits of the limited. From Kwani, to WAPI, to African Warrior ( 2005), The U.A Initiative( 2007), Hustlers Ground (2009), Seven Days (2015) and many other smaller projects in between, the sky is hardly a reasonable place to stop.
The gem that was GEMS (Genetically Emancipated Musical Soul) was released in 2018. In November 2021 she launched her second book Alkebulanian in Alkebulan and to start off 2022 she dropped a new album dubbed The Last Will and Testament (TLWAT).
It is worth noting that her musical legacy is already well cemented by the presence of her sons Jabali Tulani aka Jay the Rock and Sulwe Jakoyo. Jabali debuted on GEMS when he was 10 and his brother debuted on the The Last Will and Testament; also at 10.

They were the only features in the 2022 TLWAT offing with swerve bars on Brother's Keeper. Jay the Rock is also a budding producer who enjoys creating acoustic, trap, drill and pop beats. He also plays drums and the guitar. MC Sharon is also the founder and director of the Green House Movement and by extension the Green House Band; a conglomeration of musicians and artists who aim to change the world one song and one plant at a time.

After TLWAT, MC Sharon has had a number of brand new projects including the critically acclaimed Jambetre Ngolo (2023) which has bagged 4 awards; and 40107 Express (2023) which is a dedication to her hometown roots. Ating'o Juogi Ramogi, Anecdotes from the Hearth and Sound Sage Kinda Vibe are some of the projects in the pipeline. Currently she is preparing to drop the much awaited DIEL album which marks her first studio project in a while.
